2016 BMW 2-Series Gran Tourer, Price, Review

2016 BMW 2-Series Gran Tourer comes hot on the wheels of its predecessor the 5-seater Active Tourer and as such, it has retained some of the features. The notable difference in this latest version is, however, the addition of a row of sits at the back to the usual two. The additional seats can be folded to fit into the floor by pushing a button for extra trunk space. This has led the Bavarians to tout it as a ground breaker in this field due to its flexibility, space and versatility.

Exterior

This compact size 4-wheel drive vehicle has a height of 63.3 inches, length of 179.4 inches and a width of 70.9 inches making it almost the size of the Mazda 5. The 2 row that seats three passengers is roomy while the third row is a bit dicey as its plank has a thin padding. However, this works well for the trunk size when the third-row seats are folded to boost the cargo space to 67.3 cubic feet up from its original 22.7 cubic feet.

To improve the driving experience, drivers get the iDrive which is an operating system that seeks to keep you on the right track. AM/FM radio is also included together with a hands-free Bluetooth. There is also an emergency caller plus a color display measuring 6.5 inches for entertainment and updates on speed. Electronic parking brake, a rain sensor and a function that engages the brakes after a collision warning is issued makes this car safe to drive.

Engine

The available engine options for European market are five with a horsepower range of between 116-192 with cylinder units of either three or four. The 225i that is turbocharged is the main model that has a 2liter 4-cylinder with a horsepower delivery of 192. Its fuel consumption is expected to be 6.2ltr per 100km. on the lower side; the 218d is the diesel version that has a horsepower of 116 has a fuel consumption of 3.9ltrs per 100km on average. Overall, on average, for a 3-cylinder of 1.5ltr with a horsepower of 136, the fuel consumption is expected to be 5.1ltr per 100km.
